Chicha: Great Peruvian Food

saltnchili_chicha_2

About a year ago, I went to Chicha for a company event and was subsequently left with fond memories of their delicious dishes. I finally made it back to this restaurant with my hubby and some great friends a few weeks ago.

This absolutely fab restaurant has so many good reviews online, you might think why am I even bothering to write about this place again. It’s because this place is too good to not share with you. To be honest, I’ve never had Peruvian food before so I wouldn’t be able to tell you whether or not the food is authentic, but I could tell you for sure, the food is DELICIOUS. Read more >>

Yoku Moku in Hong Kong

saltnchili_yokumoku

Yoku Moku has opened up in the prestigious IFC mall this month, so for those who love this delicate buttery confection, you don’t have to travel to Japan to get them [though I’m not certain whether or not you can find these in Hong Kong already, since you can pretty much buy everything in this small city].

I read on Yoku Moku’s website, the key to their delicate and crispy Yoku Moku cookies is the “golden balance” of the natural ingredients including butter, sugar, eggs, flour, almonds and vanilla. And they claim the secret flavor to their cookies is the Hokkaido butter [and if I were to venture a guess, lots of it].

A Simple Thai Lunch

saltnchili_thai_green_curry

This past weekend I wanted to make a simple Thai lunch and decided on a Thai green curry with chicken and a side of green papaya salad.

I find that Thai curries are easier to make than they look (well, that is if you don’t attempt to make the curry paste from scratch). The recipe used in this post was adapted from a course I took from Secret Ingredient [yup, the same place as my last post]. It’s a good and easy recipe I stuck with. Read more >>

There is a service that allows you to select a meal online and delivers the recipe and prepared ingredients to your door, with the promise that you can cook the meal in under 30 minutes. This genius idea comes from a Hong Kong startup called Secret Ingredient. Read more >>

Jamie Oliver’s Guacamole

saltnchili_guacamole

I bought a few extra avocados when making the breakfast bruschetta last weekend, with the intention of whipping up some guacamole. When I bought the avocados they weren’t ripe enough for the recipe, so I had to wait a few days.  By Thursday evening I checked the avocados by applying a little pressure while I held them in my hands, and sure enough they gave a little, indicating they were soft enough. Avocado Breakfast Bruschetta

saltnchili_avocado_bfast_bruschetta_1

For the past couple weekends, I’ve been exploring different breakfast recipes, and I got to admit most of them weren’t all that healthy (eggs Benedict, pancakes and egg+cheese+bacon cups are a few examples). They were all certainly yummy, but the amount of butter and cheese I used in some of the recipes were alarming. So I was keen on trying something healthier. This past weekend I came across a recipe in November’s issue of the ABC delicious. magazine for an Avocado Breakfast Bruschetta. Normally I am not a fan of avocados, but the vibrant colors of the feature photo was just too tempting not to try.
