Have you ever found yourself having French bread (baguette) leftover and not knowing what to do with it? A great idea I found online is to make some french bread pizza from it. This recipe is super easy, fail-proof and gooey-delicious!
If you have kids, it would be a fun activity for them to help assemble the pizza. And the great part is not having to fuss with making the pizza dough.
This recipe is quite free-style, you can top your pizza with anything you like. In this post, I’ve used pepperoni, yellow cherry tomatoes, basil and jalapeno. Some other topping ideas:
meats: salami, prosciutto, sausages, bacon
veggies: red or green capsicum, black olives, onions, mushrooms, pineapple, spinach, arugula, tomatoes, sun-dried tomatoes, artichoke
cheeses: mozzarella cheese, ricotta, goat cheese
herbs: rosemary, oregano
You’re not limited to using the traditional pizza toppings, use your imagination and create your own custom pizza!!!
French Bread Pizza
Serves 2
Tomato Sauce (yields 2 batches)
175mL canned tomato paste
175mL water
1/4 cup olive oil
2 cloves garlic, choped
2 tsp dried basil
1 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp sugar
salt & pepper
Pizza Bread
1 baguette (16-18″ long)
1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Toppings of your choice (pepperoni, cherry tomatoes, basil and jalapeno)
salt & pepper
To make the tomato sauce, over medium heat add the olive oil and the garlic and heat for a minute. Then add the remainder of the ingredients and simmer for 5 minutes. You will only need half of the tomato sauce for this recipe (you can freeze the remainder and use at a later time).
Pre-heat the oven to 200°C.
Cut the baguette in half and then slice lengthwise. Place the baguette slices on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil and brush the cut side with olive oil. Bake for 5 minutes or until the bread is lightly browned.
Evenly spread the tomato sauce over the 4 slices of bread and top with 1/2 cup of cheese. Add the toppings of your choice and then spread the remaining 1/2 cup of cheese over the toppings. Season with salt and pepper.
Bake for 10 minutes or until the cheese has melted and starts to brown.
~~Enjoy!

This is one of my favorite comfort foods, I make it all the time and I can say its well worth the effort.
It was a recent discovery of mine to make it with baguettes! I’ve always done pizza dough, but that is just too much effort. I just can’t wait to make French Bread Pizza again!
This is a great idea and reminds me of the French bread pizzas they used to serve for lunch when I was in elementary school. I was getting awfully tired of pizza dough so this will be a great alternative and much easier too!
