This is an overdue post that I’ve been meaning to write for a while now. We’ve been to GLOW, which stands for Grill Lounge Ocean Wine, [I find the name Glow much cooler without it being an acronym] a couple of times now and we’ve always enjoyed their food. This tiny Oyster Bar and Seafood Grill is nestled in the growing foodie scene of Sai Ying Pun on Second Street.
One of the reasons we keep coming back to GLOW is for their freshly shucked oysters. On this occasion we ordered a dozen (Kumamoto, Ostra Regal, Gillardeau, Rollex and Coffin Bay) to start. You’re given the standard cocktail and mignonette sauce, but I much preferred the freshly grated horseradish.
I ordered the 60°C Slow Cooked Salmon Fillet with a Herb Salad and I might say, this is absolutely the best way to prepare salmon. The simplicity of this dish allows the freshness of the ingredients to speak for themselves. I’ve never had the herb they used in this salad, so I asked our server for the name, and I swear I heard him say they were English Chives. Not sure if I was a bit drunk with the glass of wine I had, but when I googled for this herb later on I came up empty. I guess I must have misheard him…oops.
Hubby order the Kurobuta Pork Chop, which was succulent and juicy according to him (I forgot to steal a bite from him plate). But I didn’t forget to try the garlicky stacked potatoes that came as a side…yum!
For dessert we shared the Panna Cotta with Moscato Caviar and Berry Sauce. The panna cotta was exceptionally light and silky and nicely paired with the slightly tart berry sauce. I was excited to try the pretty Moscato Caviar, which was essentially a Moscato jelly, but it wasn’t as interesting as I had hoped. Unfortunately, during our last visit, I noticed they swapped out the Panna Cotta on their dessert list. [I hope they will bring this back].
The wait staff at GLOW are exceptionally attentive and is the perfect place for a date or a dinner with a small group of friends. I suggest making reservations because this restaurant only has a few tables.
