The Wooloomooloo Group extends their family to include a newly opened restaurant, The Chop House. Located in the brand new Soundwill Plaza II on Tang Lung Street, The Chop House is neighbors to Sushi To by Harlan Goldstein and the much-anticipated Jamie’s Italian.
I’ve been wanting to try The Chop House since it’s opening, and we finally made it there last Friday. It was a bit spontaneous and we didn’t have reservations, but seeing it was close to 9pm we figured we’ll try our luck.
To beat the summer heat, we ordered drinks just after being seated. I had the Aussie Punch and hubby the Cool Mint. It certainly cooled us down a bit, but it was very average and certainly overpriced at $75 a pop.
For starters, we shared a light and crispy Calamari. After we gobbled these down, I kept dipping my fork into the tartar sauce and snacking on the chunky bits of gherkins. These rings of heaven were my favorite for the evening.
It took me a while to decide on ordering the BBQ Beef Bacon & Cheddar Burger. I was tempted to try the Chop House Pork Burger, but the thought of passing over juicy beef just didn’t sit with me.
One bite into the beef burger and I knew I made the right decision. The patty was juicy, the bun was soft and they were generous with the bacon and cheese. But, maybe they used a tad too much of the tangy BBQ sauce. I wasn’t blown away by this burger, but I thought it was pretty darn good. Definitely worth a try.
Hubby got the USDA Prime Rib Eye (200g), served with sautéed potatoes, onions and black peppercorn sauce. The steak was nicely charred and cooked to a perfect medium-rare. Only complaint hubby had was the 7oz steak wasn’t enough for him. I quite liked the sautéed potatoes, it had this spice in it that I couldn’t quite put my finger on.
We were offered 3 condiments alongside the steak ~ Onion Jam, Beetroot Chutney and Chili Mustard. I thought the onion and beetroot were overly sweet.
To balance out our protein dominant meal, we also ordered some veggies ~ Steamed Broccoli and Coleslaw. I liked the coleslaw having a balanced dressing and not being overly dressed, but the broccoli was rather bland.
The Chop House is a great place to meet up with friends and share stories over delicious comfort food. The restaurant is casual and cosy with upbeat music playing in the background and is filled with laughter from nearby tables. However, the meal was a bit pricier than we anticipated, considering the casual environment.
They have a self-serve beer tap which you can use after you purchase a selfTAP, sorta like an Octopus card I guess [I didn’t try it out, so I’m fuzzy on the details]. Drinking beer to your heart’s content~ another good reason to come here with a group of friends!

Looks delicious, but yikes! That’s crazy expensive for what seems like a fairly casual restaurant.
I agree it’s pretty pricey for a burger in a casual restaurant. The food is pretty good, but I am not sure I can justify the price.
