I wanted to write a short post about the delightful lunch we had at High Street Grill, a new addition to the Sai Ying Pun restaurant scene. It was a weekday lunch so they offered set menus at $98 for 3 courses. We’re usually a-la-carte-ordering-type-of-people, but the selection on the set menu seemed interesting and the price tag was attractive compared to the a-la-carte choices, so we both got the set.
We both chose the Pear Salad with Honey Vinaigrette, and it was this first course that intrigued us. I don’t know why, but for the salad we were expecting a few greens doused in dressing (I guess it had to do with our past set lunch experiences). Instead we were surprised with a refreshingly light salad with extremely fresh ingredients of cherry tomatoes, cucumber, red onions, pears and crumbled feta cheese.
Hubby chose the char-grilled New Zealand Strip Loin served with lyonnaise potato and mushroom gravy. The steak was tender and we both thought it was definitely a value for money set.
I opted for the Vegetarian Risotto pomodoro style with zucchini and beans. Using a tomato base for this risotto made it seem lighter, but I thought it was a bit on the acidic side and wished they put a bit more cheese in to balance the dish. But overall, I quite enjoyed this dish.
The Banana Walnut Cake and Vanilla Ice cream dessert was mediocre, but nonetheless I felt they made an effort.
We noticed that High Street Grill used Illy coffee beans, so there was no way we were going to leave without each having a cup of our favorite aromatic coffee. After our meal we lazily kicked back with our caffeine fix in this industrial-chic open-spaced restaurant and just enjoyed the relaxing vibe.
This space is ideal for a Sunday brunch and I’ve read that the burgers are also a much try.
In all, I would say High Street Grill isn’t a restaurant where you would go tripping over to make reservations for. But, if you are in the area and looking for a bite, you would be pleasantly surprised here.
I didn’t have my camera with me, so I tried out the VSCOcam app on my iPhone. I thought the results weren’t bad. What do you think?
